For this project, we should build a digital product or service based on our vision, research, findings, and the UX/UI process we learned throughout the boot camp. We could create an App, a responsive website, or a product integrated within a service.
The must-haves were:
Use design thinking and iterative methods to anticipate user needs best
Define and incorporate business objectives into the solution’s design
Identify and consider the project’s technological constraints in order to produce a suitable solution for developers
Create and implement a comprehensive research strategy that incorporates user research and a market competitive analysis
Create a User Interface that represents the Brand personality and validates its desirability with users
Perform user testing to validate the usability of the solution
We choose to work with Viva Pauá, an online adventure travel agency, created in Brazil for the development of personalized travel itineraries and the organization of trips in small groups, with non-traditional routes and exclusive experiences (referred to as 'expeditions')."
CHALLENGE —
Based on our user interviews we were able to elaborate our Problem Statement, the challenge that sums up what we wanted to change: Users are looking for a travel agency that will enable them to explore adventurous locations in Latin America with local guides and bespoke itinerary.
How might we help users find adventurous activities and bespoke itineraries with local guides in Latin America.
RESEARCH —
Occupying around 40% of South America, the Amazon is a vast ecosystem spanning 9 countries and around 6.7 million square kilometers, most of the jungle is in Brazil.
With the secondary research, we found that Brazil is not the starting point for most trips to the Amazon.
The average number of people in a travel group is from seven to fourteen. A big difference is having a person who lives in the country create your itineraries (which can be customized).
Customers are seeking unique travel plans, looking for options outside of the mainstream trends.
USER INTERVIEW —
We started the user interview with quantitive research, 85% of the interviewees never hired a travel agency before.
When asked about what are the main factors that influence the decision to hire a travel agency the main answer was the experience and knowledge of the region.
78% of the interviewees prefer to plan and organize their trips on their own instead of hiring a travel agency.
Interviewees have concerns about hiring a travel agency. They prefer traveling and discovering with locals but would consider an agency if there were exclusive tours offered and prioritized safety.
They also would choose a travel agency for more challenging or dangerous locations to have a network of people and orientation.
USER PERSONA —
USER FLOW —
The next step was to start to prototype, for this the first step was creating a user flow, the visual representation of the steps a user takes to complete a specific task or goal within a product or application.
We defined a path that the user would take to plan a trip to Amazon.
The user is required to complete a form containing details about their travel preferences. This information will then be forwarded to a Viva Pauá agent, who will create a tailored itinerary for them.
MID-FI PROTOTYPE —
HI-FI PROTOTYPE —
With the Mid-Fi prototype ready, we could start thinking about colors and fonts.
Helvetica was chosen as the font, the colors were some shades of green and yellow and we start creating the components.
